Interior photos of the training ship Koyo Maru

Student days

Today, I’d like to introduce my alma mater’s training ship, Koyo Maru. This time, I’ve included some photos of the ship’s interior.
Inside the ship, there are classrooms and a navigation room where trainees learn, as well as cabins where they sleep. These photos give a rare glimpse of the equipment and facilities that students use during their training.
In the pictures, you can see the navigation instruments, passageways to the deck, and scenes of trainees at work. I hope these images help you get a sense of what learning at sea is like.

This is the students’ living quarters. There are four beds here, and four people sleep and live in this room

This is a photo of the ship at night. It’s beautifully illuminated and looks stunning.

You can see the view of Shimonoseki Port from the window.

This is the space located behind the ship’s navigation room. It contains a chart table, logbooks, and other equipment. There is also a small kitchenette where coffee is made. When navigating the ship late at night, it’s easy to get sleepy, so trainees make and drink coffee here to stay alert.

This is the bridge of the ship. A wide range of navigation instruments are lined up here. The officers and the captain operate and navigate the ship from this location.

This is the logbook. It is a journal in which everything that happens during the ship’s operation is recorded. It is a very important book.

There are two clocks here. One shows Japan Standard Time, and the other shows Universal Time (UTC).

This is the ship’s radar display. Ships and land detected by the radar are shown on the screen.
