Onboard Training Scene of the Training Ship Tenyo-maru of the National Fisheries University

Student days

I attended a university called the National Fisheries University, a small university located in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
I’m sharing some photos of my memories from university life.
This time, the photos are from a practical training called onboard training, which is part of the university’s curriculum.

This is the Tentaka-maru, the pride of our university. At the time this photo was taken, the ship had only been in service for two years and was sparkling new. I still remember the ship being filled with the latest equipment, very functional, and even smelling like a brand-new vehicle.

This is the schedule of the voyage. We sailed along this route: departing from our home port, Shimonoseki, heading south along the western coast of Kyushu, entering Kagoshima, then traveling north through the Bungo Channel, and finally returning to Shimonoseki Port.

We boarded the ship by climbing the gangway.

This is a view from the voyage. The sea was very beautiful.

Next, here is a view from inside the ship.

This is a photo of the dining hall.

Next, here is a view of the cabin.

It was a small six-person room, and my personal space was just this bed area.

There was a curtain, so you could at least block the view from outside.

After arriving in Kagoshima, I had a shaved ice called “Shirokuma.” It was incredibly delicious, but since it was around October, it was very cold.

It’s a bit hard to see in the photo, but we also went to see Sakurajima.

This is the cityscape of Kagoshima, around the Tenmonkan area. Sakurajima could be seen beautifully.
